Outstanding Russian writer Ivan Turgenev spent his childhood in Spasskoe-Lutovinovo not far from Orel and lived there later. Nature was the source of his inspiration and he described it in many novels.

Spasskoe-Lutovinovo was very progressive. For example, there was greenhouse where pineapples and other exotic fruits grew. 

The main house burned down in 1906. In 70 years, the house was reconstructed and now many tourists visit it. Everything in the house tells about Ivan Turgenev and his family. In one room, there is sofa that was called “Selfsleep». It has this name because it is very comfortable for rest. Unfortunately, visitors aren’t allowed sleep on the exhibit.

Pay attention to the park. Mant trees here are really old and they saw Ivan Turgenev and other members of his family. Turgenev by himself planted some trees.
