One of them is Oldenburg Princess’ castle located in Ramon near Voronezh. It was built in 1887 for Eugene of Oldenburg, granddaughter of Russian emperor Nicolay I, great-granddaughter of the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte - Josephine.

The Oldenburgs intermarried with the Russian emperial family under Peter the Great. After that, their family has been always associated with the family of Russian emperors – the Romanovs.Wherein the Oldenburgs had more glorious history than the Romanovs. Today as historias say descendants of the Oldenburgs rule in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Princess Eugene of Oldenburg turned the village Ramon into a prosperous land. She took care of its people: built a school and a hospital. She made Ramon world-famous when confectionery under her direction was built. There were nearly 400 types of candies. Famous artists created candy wrappers. Those candies deserved Russian and European awards.

The castle of princess is the example of extraordinary combination of neogothic and modern. The brick building is decorated with wrought iron balcony lattice. The main decoration of area before the castle is forged gates. Historians don't know the name of the architect of the castle.

Eugene of Oldenburg loved Ramon which became her home. She paid attention to all details in order to make the castle comfortable. For example, the main staircase were designed for steps of women in long dresses. And today all visitors can feel how comfortable it is to climb this staircase.

The main halls of the castle were richly decorated. Hot and cold water was supplied to the second floor. Nowadays people can see those interiors only on photos. Now the castle is empty. On the ground floor there is the exhibition dedicated to the Oldenburgs.

One of the most fascinating objects there is the large fireplace with tiles. It is also one of the most mysterious places in the castle. People say that there you can see a ghost. Sometimes it is visible only on photos.
