Dortmund: to Visit or not to Visit?

Dortmund city center, Germany
Almost completely destroyed and now modern and populous - this post is about Dortmund, eighth-largest city in Germany with specific places of interest and lack of old architecture.

The destruction of Dortmund took place in the World War II. Before the war it was industrial city, supplying Europe with coal and steel. The increased demand for coal and steel after the war led to a rapid rebuilding of the city. Although initially there was a question whether Dortmund would be rebuilt.

Now it is the city with modern buildings and crowded streets. But I can't advice it for visiting. Except several buildings there no old architecture. This city can be described not as beautiful but probably as practical and pragmatic. Dortmund is also not for people loving shopping.

But Dortmund can suggest tourists football museum because the city is a home of one of the most popular German football clubs - "Borussia". Also there several factories those have become museums. I mean for example coal factory "Hansa".

If we speak about old architecture there are several old churches and city hall. Now it is unknown when the old city hall was built. It is mentioned in documents in 1240.
I also visited Eagle tower. It was reconstructed as a part of the old city wall.

One of the most colourful city decorations are advertising rhinoceroses.

Before visiting every city I of course surfe in Internet and look for information about places of interest. I understood that there are not many such places in Dortmund, those you can easily visit. But I was really surprised when I came in Dortmund.
For visiting this city for me several hours were enough. But it was a long day with train delay and I had much time to feel Dortmund atmosphere.

In the end of my Dortmund walking I went to the city park. There I saw not only squirells but also a rabbit and even an alien.

I can only say: "Stay open-minded and everywhere you will find something interesting and inspiring".
