The KGB (the Committee for State Security) captain Putin was sent to Dresden in 1985 when he was 33 years old. His family came with him. Putin worked under the guise of the director of the Dresden Friendship House.

There on the third floor in a large panel house Vladimir Putin with his family lived. It is still a residential building now. And there is a birch tree in the yard which according to some versions was planted by Vladimir Putin.

And according to various sources, the Russian president recalls life in Germany with warmth.

Vladimir Putin worked within walking distance from home. It was two-storey villa in Angelikastrasse 4. There Putin worked with other KGB officers. It is unknown what definitely future Russian president in Dresden did. Probably we will know about it only in many years.

They say that sometimes Vladimir Putin visited pub Am Thor, that is situated not far from August Platz.

There is a story, that on 5 February 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Dresden citizens decided to take over the villa in Angelikastrasse. But Vladimir Putin managed to stop them without force.

After five years in Dresden Putin returned to Russia with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Except the fact that Vladimir Putin lived and worked in Dresden, there are a lot of other facts and places which remind nowadays of the connection between Dresden and Russia. But about these places I will wrote a little bit later.
