Lipetsk |
As you can imagine, Peter the Great was really active.
There was need in materials for ships building in Voronezh.

He looked for them
in the neighborhood. In Lipetsk (that was a little village in that moment) he
found iron ore. It was needed for guns production.
Walking the territory, he also found mineral water. It
was compared with the mineral water from famous foreign health resorts. The
results were great. Therefore, Lipetsk became not only an industrial town, but
also the first Russian resort attracting aristocracy.
Both of these development directions are actual for
Lipetsk today. The town is famous for its ironworks and health resort with
mineral water.
Visiting this town you can taste mineral water, walk
around Peter's the Great Square and see several monuments dedicated to him. On Peter's
the Great Square there is a large monument of the emperor.

The second monument is
the trihedral stela which people sometimes jokingly call the toothpick. It is
the oldest Lipetsk monument. Stela symbolizes the rise of Russia and bas-reliefs
tells the history of it.

One of the most interesting things is the handprint of
Peter the Great. The second handprint was made of cast iron also in Lipetsk and
now it is stored in the house of Peter the Great in St. Petersburg.

Historians write
that Peter the Great was really tall – more than two meters – but he had small
hands for his proportions. Today you can compare your hand to the hand of the
first Russian emperor.

Come on!
P.S. I visited Lipetsk several times but I wasn't able to taste its famous mineral water in the park. The fact is that water has really terrible smell. But this is as well as in other world famous resorts with mineral water. So I hope the next time I will be brave enough to taste it.
