What is Russia? To find the answer only in Moscow and
St. Petersburg is not enough. If you have such opportunity visit little old Russian
towns. One of them is Yelets, located in 393 kilometers from Moscow. It was
founded in 1146. Therefore, it is older than Moscow that was found in 1147.
People say that Yelets is as old as ancient Russia. Having such a long history,
the town survived in many wars.

Yelets has his own Red Square and pedestrianized
street. The Red Square tells the history of defeats of people living here in
different centuries.

One of the main points of Yelets, Ascension Cathedral, is
also here situated. It is the fourth Orthodox church in Russia if consider its
size. The largest three churches are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg and
Voronezh.

objects, stone and wooden. Yelets has the atmosphere of cosiness and calm.

Yelets is known all over Russia as the town where
wonderful lace is made. Now there is the factory that you can visit, museum and
the shop. Lace weaving in Yelets began in XIX century. First sketches were
brought from Europe. However, sometime later Yelets created its own design and
amazed Europe.

feel Russian provincial life. Yelets is very neat. Sometimes it is seemed that
time has stopped here.
As you can see I visited Yelets several times. And every my visit was really interesting.
