As Bonn is a city of Bethoven so Leipzig is a city of Johann Sebastian Bach. Another world famous person connected with Leipzig is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Nowadays Leipzig is a fast developing city with lots of places of interest.

Leipzig became a city in 1165. In middle ages Leipzig was the center of trade and culture. The heart of the city was Leipzig university. In the end of the XV century Leipzig became a part of Saxony. But the capital of Saxony was Dresden. Now Leipzig and Dresden are the largest Saxon cities.

Leipzig has old music tradition. In 1212 in St. Thomas church boys' choir was founded. Centuries ago this choir was directed during 27 years by composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Near the church there are a monument to Bach and a museum. Every year in summer Bach festival takes place in Leipzig.
Another famous person about whom you can find mentions here and there is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The monument to the poet and philosoph is situated near old exchange building.

But one of the most famous Leipzig sculptures is Faust and Mephistopheles. The sculpture is situated near famous restaurant Auerbachs Keller. This restaurant was mentioned by Goethe in his masterpiece Faust.
There is a belief that if a student rubs Mephistopheles' boots, he will succeed in his studies.

One more place connected with Goethe is Leipzig university. The poet studied there. By the way, chancellor of germany Angela Merkel studied at Leipzig university too.

Like for example in Hannover there are two city halls in Leipzig: old and new. Old city hall was built in XVI century. Now it is a museum.

One more place that I visited in Leipzig was St. Nicholas church. there is no exact information about the date of its foundation. However there is opinion that is was founded approximately in 1165.

When you have time for visiting not only city center you can go to the monument to the Battle of the Nations. It is one og the largest monuments in Europe. This large-scale construction is dedicated to human courage.

Leipzig is full of interesting places. Moreover it is a great city for shoppping lovers. Leipzig is famous for its passages.
